Every year Dr. Lendol Calder introduces his students to money's power over us by having them each take a dollar bill out of their wallets and asking them to rip it in half. Almost all of them won't do it; Not because it's worth very much, but because of the hold money has on us. When Jesus talks about money he speaks as if it were actually a god that has power. Christians must find some way to break the power money has over us. Calder argues that the only way to show allegiance to another, greater, power is to profane the power of the lesser god. Giving money, he says, is the best way to demonstrate that we follow and worship the one, true God over all creation.
